Bowline on a coil
Bowline-on-a-coil.gif

Use: This is used as an impromptu harness, however is not recommended today since there are commercially available pre-fabricated harnesses. This method is preferable to a single loop because it distributes weight across all the loops/wraps.

How to tie:

  1. To tie, wrap about 15 feet from the loose end of the rope around your body.
  2. Form a loop from the (non-loose) end of the rope (like a regular bowline) and slip it under the rope around your body.
  3. Thread the loose end of the rope through the loop, around the long end, and back through the loop (like a regular bowline).
