Learn the value of temperance by: |
Note 1: Requirements 1a, 1b, and 1c of the Companion class Health and Fitness section also meet requirements #1, #2 and #7 of the Temperance honor. Why not complete the rest of the requirements and earn the honor while you're at it?
Note 2: Teaching Requirements 1a-c meets Health and Fitness Requirement 1 for the Guide class. Before teaching these Requirements to a group of Companions, you should coordinate with the Guide unit's counselor.
The Temperance Pledge reads as follows:
- “Realizing the importance of healthy body and mind, I (your name) promise, with the help of God, to live a Christian life of true temperance in all good things and total abstinence from the use of tobacco, alcohol, or any other narcotic.”

Memorizing two of the following Bible texts:

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Wine is a mocker,
Strong drink is a brawler,
And whoever is led astray by it is not wise.
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.
