Requirement 1

Know how ropes are made and demonstrate how to care for rope in the correct manner.


Requirement 2

Tie and know the practical use of the following knots: Overhand, Granny, Square, Slip, Double Bow, Two Half Hitches, Clove Hitch, Bowline.


Requirement 3

Participate in an overnight CAMPOUT.


Requirement 4

Pass a test in general safety.


Requirement 5

Pitch and strike a tent and make a camp bed.


Requirement 6

Know ten hiking rules, and know what to do when lost.


  1. Respect both public and private property
  2. Do not trespass.
  3. Dispose of trash properly. If no disposal facilities are available, pack out what you pack in.
  4. Do not destroy the flora or fauna.
  5. Have a good sense of humor.
  6. Help others with their necessities.
  7. Do not play games that can hurt others.
  8. Follow and obey the leaders.
  9. Finish what you start.
  10. Tell someone where you are going and report back, particularly if going into the wilderness.

Requirement 7

Learn the signs for track and trail. Be able to lay a 2 km. trail that others can follow and be able to track a 2 km. trail.

Properly use the knife and axe, and know ten safety rules in their use.

Tie five speed knots.
